Flint Retires

Many visitors to Briar Horse Trek will remember dear old Flint.
He has finally retired. Even though we thought we couldn't live with out him it was definately time he got to cruise in life. His new job is looking after a couple of yearlings and no doubt the blameless old fella will be doing a tremendous job. In his past life he has been a roping horse, pony club mount, horse sports horse, farm hack, ladies man.
One gal who owned him curled up next to him lying on the ground and read books in the sun. Another told me a story of him carrying grandchildren complete with lunch and colouring in books- while Granddad put in fence posts grandchild sat up top and coloured.
Farewell Flint and THANKYOU

We are often asked about HORSE AND PONY RIDING LESSONS and for horse information.  If you wish to know more about how to ride PLEASE ASK US!  WE are only too happy to coach people as they trek along.

Some folk are happy to just cruise along on their horse with out the details, but there are a few things about riding it's helpful to know.
Lean forward going up hill (takes weight off the horses back legs), lean back going down hill (balances the horse).
Keep your heels down.
Keep your back straight.
Put only the ball of your foot in the stirrup.
Keep your hands down.
The reins are for gentle steering and stopping not for balancing. Keep them even and if you loose balance hold the saddle or horses mane -which doesn't hurt him a bit.
